One of my earliest childhood memories is drawing a duck at a nearby pond. My Dad was so impressed that it looked like a duck, he hung it on our hallway wall. Soon that wall was covered with drawings of birds, dinosaurs, airplanes and sea monsters. Whether it was artistic ability inherited from my mother, or my father’s willingness to buy me art supplies and books I developed my drawing skills mainly self-taught over my lifetime. My biggest influences are the cartoonist Sergio Aragones and instructional drawing/cartooning books by Jack Hamm. Wildlife artist Guy Coheleach further inspired my love of animal artwork.
I also remember when my dad took me to Manhattan in 1985 to get my first camera - a Nikon FG. It was totally manual and forced me to build a solid foundation of photography basics. Thus began my journey with the camera. With the advent of the digital age, new tools and techniques became available that have allowed me to develop and share my photography. Inspired by photographers such as Jim Zuckerman, Tony Sweet, Moose Peterson and the great Ansel Adams I focused my love for nature, landscape, and travel photography.
What I always dreamed of however, was to learn how to oil paint. In 2021 I decided to finally teach myself. Thanks to YouTube I found fantastic video tutorials from Andrew Tischler, Diane Mize, Chris Fornataro and Florent Farges. In order to translate my artistic vision to the canvas I’ve dedicated myself to painting as often as possible and challenging myself to learn new techniques. Living in College Park, FL has blessed me with a diversity of colorful and interesting subjects. I hope that my images and artwork illicit the same appreciation for the birds, butterflies, animals, and scenery of Central Florida that I have when pressing my shutter button or standing at my easel.
